Real Madrid vs Man City Prediction (UEFA Champions League) – February 27, 2020, 04:00 (GMT +8)

Real Madrid aims to hand Manchester City an unwelcome result at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium when they collide in the first leg of their Champions League Round-of-16 tie on Thursday. When in rhythm, Real are known to be hard to handle at home but City will try to give stiff opposition. Read on for Lyon vs Juventus Prediction and betting tips.

Los Blancos are on a mission to regain Champions League glory they last won in 2018. Last season, they were stopped in the quarterfinals 2-1 by Juventus when Cristiano Ronaldo was still their main man. It was the first time since the 2009-10 season that they were unable to enter the semifinals or better.

Real Madrid vs Man City Match Previews

POST-RONALDO ERA

The post-Ronaldo era is bringing fresh hopes for Real Madrid and one of these is to come up big in the Champions League again. Zinedine Zidane’s side reached the last-16 after ending up second in Group B behind Paris-Saint Germain, capping their stint with a 3-1 win a Club Brugge. It was the third time in four seasons that they wound up second in group stage.

Real Madrid tasted defeat in just four of their last 49 Champions League matches, winning 37 of them. In their last nine European games held at Bernabeu Stadium, they managed to win three games.

Against English teams in two-leg ties, Real Madrid have won eight and lost four matches so far. In their last meeting, Los Blancos also beat City 1-0 in their 2016 Champions League semifinals tie where they had a 0-0 draw in the first leg. Real Madrid’s last meeting with an English squad was in 2018 when they defeated Liverpool 3-1 in the final.

At home against a team from England, Real last faced Tottenham in the group stage when they battled to a 1-1 draw. All told, Real Madrid have eight wins, six draws and two losses at home against English outfits.

7TH STRAIGHT APPEARANCE

Meanwhile, City advanced after ruling Group C to make their seventh consecutive last-16 campaign. This is their ninth Champions League stint.

Last season, City barged into the last-8 but were ousted by Tottenham Hotspur who advanced on away goals following a hard-fought 4-4 aggregate draw. Against clubs from Spain in two-leg ties, have won once and tasted their last four matches.

In 10 trips to Spain, City won only twice. Their last travel there resulted in a heavy 4-0 loss to Barcelona in the 2017 Champions League group stage, whilst their last 21 European games produced 12 wins.

Before their first-leg collision, Real Madrid lost at Levante 1-0, enabling Barca to wrest the La Liga lead, whilst City produced a 1-0 win at Leicester City to keep their hold of second spot in the English Premier League.

Eden Hazard is in doubtful status for Real Madrid after the Belgian forward sustained a right-leg injury in their game against Levante four days before their match with City.

Real Madrid vs Man City Prediction

• Real Madrid host Man City in the first leg, and unbelievably are underdogs at home! Real only lost their second game of the season last weekend, and are now 2pts off Barcelona at the top of the table, but they’re still unbeaten at home.
• Man City are also 2nd in their own league, but they have no hope of winning the title this year, meaning the Champions League, which they are actually banned from for the next 2 seasons, is their biggest chance of major silverware this season.
• English sides have not had a great record so far, with both Liverpool and Tottenham losing last week. Man City are one of the favourites for the tournament, but I can see them struggling to take a lead back for the home leg.
